Energy Efficient and Sustainable Campus Competition 2015-2016
Energy Efficient and Sustainable Campus Competition is organized for the second time in autumn 2015 in cooperation with Aalto University and Aalto University Student Union (AYY). Check out the competition, participate and win!
N.B. Competition submission extened until Feb 19, 2016!
The idea competition aims to find and promote existing best practises and uncover novel ideas in the fields of energy efficiency* and carbon emission reduction. We hope to discover the simple and obvious as well as the unforeseen ways to improve the energy efficiency of our surroundings.
The goal of the competition is to promote discussion about energy efficiency and the vast amount of ways to improve it. We encourage people to observe their surroundings and think of ways to affect them. Even small, simple solutions can add up to big savings in the long run.
The special theme of the Energy Efficient and Sustainable Campus Competition 2015-2016 is smart and resource-wise solutions contributing to use of space in the campus. The average utilization of the university premises is 28%. This means that a significant part of the premises is continuously unoccupied. Aalto Campus & Real Estate seeks concrete solution proposals to improve the efficiency of space utilization and resources. Solutions are estimated on the basis of concreteness, feasibility and versatility. 5 000 € is reserved for processing the solution(s).
Our goal is to discover new, innovative and practical solutions all the way from small scale everyday improvements to more ambitious building and infrastructure updates.
The participants are expected to think of ways to have an impact on the energy usage of the academic community and the Aalto campuses. The end result should be a tangible, realistic description of the observed problem and the found solution.
Be it a personal upgrade in one's everyday habits or a bold infrastructure improvement concept, we are excited to hear about it!
In order to guide the focus of the entries, the competition is divided into five categories: Everyday improvements, Infrastructure updates, Technological advancements, Behavioural changes and Other exciting ideas.
The competition is open for all Students, Staff and Researchers at Aalto University. The entries can be personal or designed by a team.
The organisers, jury members or family members of either are not eligible to participate. The entries that were awarded last year, cannot be resubmitted this year.
Energy efficiency can be defined in multiple ways, but traditionally it is "using less energy to provide the same service". In this competition we are keeping the scope as wide as possible. We are interested in all of the ways to control energy usage, improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
- 5 000€ development budget (for proposal(s) in the special theme of space utilization)
